Port of London
Macduff Ship Design was approached by the PLA to investigate the options for the replacement of their existing 40 year old workboats – the ‘Crossness’ and the ‘Hookness’. The two vessels provided support to the many and varied operations taking place on the river Thames and the Thames estuary. Following an extensive review of the current vessel operations and potential future requirements, along with the extensive environmental restrictions due to the operational area, Macduff submitted its tender through the European competitive tender process for the design development work. Against strong competition Macduff was awarded the contract and proceeded to finalise the design through discussions with PLA staff. Macduff also assisted with the Tender process for the selection of the building yard. A full design package was completed and approved by Lloyds register and provided to the chosen shipyard, Manor Marine, where Macduff oversaw the vessel build and completion through to delivery. The final result was a robust and versatile vessel which serves its purpose well in maintaining the busy river.
