Specification Writing & Feasibility Studies
Specification Writing & Feasibility Studies
Where a client is considering changes to an existing vessel, be it for modernisation purposes, replacement of main machinery items, Macduff Ship Design Ltd is able to offer a Specification Writing service. This would involve discussing in detail with the client the proposed alterations, establishing that they are technically feasible, checking their effects on the vessel in terms of changes in performance or stability and trim and then encompassing a full technical description of the works to be undertaken in a specification. This would normally be produced in conjunction with a detailed drawing to create a package that could be forwarded to contractors for quoting.
The great advantage of this approach is that the Client has peace of mind because he knows that his proposed alterations are technically feasible and that all the items required to complete the alterations have been specified. The contractor undertaking the work receives a clear and detailed break-down of all the jobs involved along with revised drawings for machinery seats, etc. as required. The other bonus of this approach is that from the Owner’s point of view, the quotations received from the Contractors should be directly comparable, with all Contractors effectively quoting for the same work.
Feasibility studies are carried out to investigate either a change of use for a vessel, extending vessel’s working life, extending a vessel’s carrying capacity or improving a vessel’s performance/ sea keeping capabilities.
